The picturesque Bay of Gradina is situated (about 5 km by road) to the northwest of Vela Luka and is best reached by taxi boat or car. Here the coast is crisscrossed by rocks and jetties, but the sea is very shallow, so that children and non-swimmers in particular can enjoy carefree swimming. The sea-bottom is sandy in many places. Close to the shore, where stones and rocks traverse the sea, one should make sure to tread carefully. The natural trees, depending on the time of day, provide plenty of shade in many places. Gradina is also surrounded by 3 small islands on which nude bathers like to romp about on. In the bay, boats can be rented for the crossing. The southern region of the bay is bordered by a peninsula which can be reached on foot via a narrow causeway, and which has many idyllic swimming spots on shady, rocky beaches. In the Bay of Gradina there is hardly any tourist activity. Bathers should bring sunscreen, food and any other bathing necessities with them.
