In the idyllic Sakarun Bay, 3 km southeast of Veli Rat, you will find an 800 meter long sandy beach sharing the bay's name, which is very popular among tourists and locals. The shore falls very flatly into the sea so that you can go very far into the sea without losing the ground under your feet – ideal, especially for young swimmers. This sandy beach with some pebbled sections is unique to the island of Dugi Otok, which is otherwise characterized by steep cliffs. The water has a seemingly Caribbean feel to it with its turquoise colored and crystal clear waters. Pine trees donate their shade at the edge of the beach. Sakarun beach counts as one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia and is recommended for families with small children, older people, singles and young people. It can be reached by car, bus, on foot or from the tourist train from Bozava. Parking is available. On the beach you can, among other things, play beach volleyball, diving, and the Croatian game of picigin. A beach bar/café is there to provide for your physical well-being.
