Opatija's 20,000 meter squared main beach of Slatina is centrally located (about 700 meters southeast of the center) and is within walking distance. Due to its "Blue Flag", Slatina is very popular. Surrounded by buildings and some pines, the concrete beach provides sunbathing areas with rentable umbrellas and lounge chairs, as well as having steps that allow for easy entry into the sea. A narrow, artificial sandy beach is very popular with young children because of its soft ground and shallow shores. Shaded area can be found at the beach's edge. Cafés and restaurants provide dining pleasures, while children and young people enjoy themselves, among other activities, on the playground or jet skiing. Toilets, showers and changing rooms ensure that there is nothing lacking on the beach. For the safety of its guests, there are lifeguards.
