Funtana

The small former fishing village of Funtana, nestled near Porec amidst a lush green landscape, is today one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Istrian coast. The village is characterized by scenic, simple architecture, reminiscent of the simple and arduous life of the former fishermen here. Towering over the small white houses is an expansive castle and a church with a bell tower. The parish Church of St. Bernard dates back to 1621 and is home to many valuable oil paintings which can be visited. Funtana is a town with a very long history. People were already living here when the Romans came and became  responsible, among other things, for the remains of different aqueducts. Today, the town is fully geared towards tourism. Various sports activities as well as a number of excellent restaurants and bars serving excellent delicacies complete the perfect holiday package. Special fun for children is provided by the Dino Park Funtana which displays numerous moving dinosaur replicas along a 1.5 km long trail. There is also a petting zoo (of course with live animals such as ponies and goats), changing exhibitions and a dinosaur museum.

Funtana is directly situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines of the Istrian Peninsula. The highly rugged coastline has numerous hidden swimming coves, but also some large, well-maintained beach sections. The coastline has a romantic, very primitive image.
