Ivan Dolac

The central Dalmatian Island of Hvar is located in the same group as the Islands of Brac, Vis and Korcula - not far from the mainland cities of Split and Makarska. Located 37 km east of the main town of Hvar is the low-key resort of Ivan Dolac on the south side of the island. Due to the steep mountain slopes here and the high number of sunshine hours, Ivan Dolac is ideal for viticulture. Some of the best wines in Croatia are those that come from this region.

Traces of the typical Dalmatian architecture can be found throughout the settlement, despite the fact that many new buildings have been built. The main attraction in the village is the Church of St. Magdalene dating back to the 20th century. It replaced a church from the 19th century, whose bell tower still remains.  The summer residence of the wealthy Simunic family, who lived in Ivan Dolac between the 16th and 19th centuries, is especially striking between the old resident houses.

When the day draws to a close, a walk through the old upper district fills you with a peaceful atmosphere. Then, from these slopes, you can enjoy a wonderful sunset. Alternatively, you can also enjoy the view of the sea and the mountainous backdrop while savoring a local speciality and glass of local red wine at one the village's restaurants or taverns. The coast around Ivan Dolac is characterized by extremely idyllic, sandy and rocky beaches, which are all, usually, easy to reach.
