Kampor

Kampor is a resort town in the Kvarner Bay, which extends over the rugged west region on the island of Rab. The island lies directly in front of the Croatian mainland by Sveti Juraj and Jablanac. The densely forested coast of Kampor faces the neighboring island of Cres. With approximately 1,200 inhabitants, Kampor is an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday on the coast. There are also opportunities for more sporty activities in the green hills of the surrounding countryside. Not far from the center lies the protected forest reserve of "Dundo" on the Kalifronta peninsula- a true idyll for cyclists, walkers and swimmers, as there are some swimming coves to be found here.

History buffs will appreciate the nearby Franciscan Monastery of St. Euphemia (13th century.), which now houses the sacral and the ethnographic museum and a library. Another building worth visiting with ties to the history of the city is the former concentration camp of Rab, which was built during World War II by the Italian occupiers. Today, this memorial displays a plaque which they had made by the inmates on the prison island of Goli Otok in 1953. The plague was made in  remembrance of the 1,433 victims of Croatian, Slovenian, and Jewish descent. The memorial is located in close proximity to the monastery. Kampor is gastronomically well prepared to host tourists and has a wide range of traditional pubs and restaurants with international cuisine.
