Kastel Luksic lies 18 km northwest of the central Dalmatian city of Split and is a district of the city of Kastela which extends over seven forts. In the 15th century, the Vitturi brothers built a castle in the Renaissance style here and today it is recognized for its design as one of the most beautiful castles in Kastela. Contrary to the tradition of naming the castle after its builder, the Viturri castle carries the name of Luksi Vitturis, who lived in the 14th century. The fortress was named after him in his honor.

Kastel Luksic not only tells it visitors the story of the Turkish attacks, but also of the lovers Dobrila Vitturi and Miljenko Rusinic whose demise was worthy of Shakespeare. As members of warring families, both lovers were banished to two different monasteries. Although the marriage was allowed some time later, the family feud still persisted and Dobrila's father made the decision to kill his son in law. His death affected Dobrila so greatly that she became mentally ill- resulting in her death shortly afterwards. The desire to be united in death, was the one wish their families granted them. The story is omnipresent everywhere, especially in the Church of Sveti Ivan where you can visit the tombstone dedicated to them with the inscription "Peace to the lovers". The castles of the families and the old church where the marriage is said to have taken place, tell of this tragedy.
