Klek

The holiday resort of Klek lies near the fertile delta region of the Neretva River, on the southern Dalmatian mainland coast just 70 km northwest of Dubrovnik. The coastal town with only 200 inhabitants has developed in a small bay surrounded by sparsely vegetated mountains. The residents have built their houses in the wooded foothills of these mountains. The coastal road encompasses Klek in a horseshoe shape so that the town does not have to deal with through traffic. The Nonkovic Tower that was built in the Venetian period tells of the town's past and provides for some historic flair near the waterfront promenade. Next door is a small chapel from the 17th century. The Church of Sv. Petra i Pavla, which was built in 2004, leaves its modern footprint on the town.

The well-established tourist town of Klek offers visitors a variety of cafés and restaurants, shopping and leisure facilities and a beautiful, wide pebbled beach which is very busy during the peak seasons. You can take pleasure in, among other things, bathing, snorkeling, pedal boating or, for those who are drawn to the mountains, walking and hiking. A beautiful destination is the Smrdan Grad located above Klek. Here you can visit the ruins of an ancient city and a defensive wall which were originally built by the Venetians. Perched at the top of the mountain is the pre-Roman Gradina Fortress, from where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Peljesac Peninsula.
