The charm of the Croatian island town is not only a result of its Mediterranean flair, but also from its long history. The ruins of the Roman 'Villae Rusticae' is telling of the city's history. It is an ancient Roman villa, whose remains today are located under a cemetery. Also worth seeing is the neo-Byzantine style mausoleum of Petrinovic family built in 1914. This can be admired in the cemetery at Cape St. Nicholas. In addition to the pompous mausoleum there is the church of St. Nicholas. Here the wonderful work of the stonemason and sculptor Ivan Rendic has found its home. The surrounding church cemetery with its numerous chapels, tombs and grave stones reveals rich Croatian culture burial customs. Also worth more than just a curious look is the Church of Saint Maria Annunciation built in 1733. This church is beautifully designed from the Baroque era, which is dedicated to St. Peter and in its interior houses rich treasures of religious inventory.
