Sutivan

Sutivan is a village on the northern coast of the central Island of Brac. It has a population of around 820 residents, who have been traditionally associated with the fishing and agriculture industries as well as for tourism for the last several decades. These traditions can be experienced not only on cycling tours through the ancient olive groves and cultivated vineyards, but also in the restaurants and taverns in Sutivan which serve local produce in their typical Dalmatian dishes.

Sutivan is a typical Mediterranean coastal town, whose delightful atmosphere is created by its rustic buildings and historical monuments and its location nestled in the Adriatic island scenery. The villas and summer residences possess a certain charm due to their rich Renaissance and Baroque styles and by having been built by the nobles in Sutivan. It is believed that some of the houses date back to the 3rd century- the same time that Emperor Diocletian was building his palace (295 AD) in Split. The cityscape is dominated by the Church of Sveti Ivan which pokes its onion-shaped bell tower out and over the red-tiled roofs of the surrounding stone houses. The town of Sutivan was named after the church that was built in the 15th century on the foundations of a former church dating from the 6th century.

After a tour of Sutivan you can relax in the neighboring nature park, which houses not only various domestic animals such as donkeys, goats and mouflon, but also exotic animals such as parrots and ostriches. There is also a large playground for children, as well as different leisure activities and opportunities for sports,  barbecue pits and shady spots to relax in.
