Tisno

The seaside village of Tisno, which translates as "narrow" or "slender", is the "Gateway to the Island of Murter", and extends along the Dalmatian mainland coast between Pakostane and Vodice. Here you will find the bascule bridge connecting the island of Murter with the mainland. At the same time, the bridge connects the old town of Tisno with the modern districts that spread out on the mainland. The bascule bridge of Tisno has become an attraction among tourists and passing travelers. The flaps are lifted twice a day so that larger boats can sail through the narrow Murter Channel. Numerous people flock to the shore to watch the boats as they pass, and often enough, there are some very interesting yachts.

About 1,200 people live in this coastal town, which was first mentioned in 1474.  Archaeological remains and ruins, however, have been found from the 2nd, 3rd and 5th centuries. The parish Church of the Holy Spirit (1548) and Church of St. Rocco (1651) are buildings which particularly stand out and emphasize the rustic charm of the town. Tisno is not only a place rich in cultural and historical monuments, but also in living traditions. With great delight, the inhabitants celebrate their ancient customs at, among others, the Jurevizija Carnival, the Easter Breakfast, at the Potato Days in July and at the Donkey Race in August. Tisno is a lively town with a variety of dining, entertainment, beautiful beaches and different leisure activities - especially scuba diving, snorkeling, biking and hiking.
