Zavalatica

The 400 residents of Zavalatica find their home on the sparsely populated southern coast of the Island of Korcula. The town was first built to act as a port for the town of Cara lying 2 km inland. The coastal village inspires those travelers looking for relaxation and seclusion in particular, because Zavalatica is truly an oasis of calm. Notable sights are difficult to find, although. One local feature, however, is the castle of Petar Kanavelic. Peter Kanavelic is one of the most important poets from Croatia, who spent a lot of time here on Korcula, where he ultimately found his last resting place.

The majority of the tourists visit Zavalatica because of its beautiful beaches that are located on either side of the resort, although mainly in the east. In Zavalatica there is modest shopping, a hospital, a few restaurants and cafés. Here you can enjoy a glass of excellent island wine served with the local fish specialties during a quiet evening overlooking the small fishing harbor and sun setting over the sea. The local cuisine is characterized by locally grown vegetables, aromatic herbs, fresh fish and an excellent olive oil.
