Kornati Archipelago

The archipelago of the Kornati has a unique, rugged beauty that attracts and puts visitors under its spell. The Croatian coast and its typical islands reefs appear nowhere so majestic and impressive as here. Up to 98 meters high, the steep cliffs jut out from the sea and provide gorgeous views. The highest cliffs can be found on the islands of Klobucar (80 meters), Mana (65 meters) and Rasip Veli (64 meter). The islands and islets - some 150 of them - are close together and are an exceptional sight from afar. The islands are made of porous limestone that forms numerous crevices and caves where red corals, snails, oysters and all kinds of crustaceans feel extremely at home. The shorelines are uniquely shaped and nowhere else can you find greater diversity of species in the sea than here. For all these reasons, the sparsely populated Kornati islands are a paradise for anglers as well as boaters. Incidentally, the area is a prime destination for divers and snorkelers who want to enjoy the rich underwater world.

Enchanting Kornati National Park

Parts of the archipelago were put under protection in 1980 because of their unique beauty and biodiversity. Today Kornati National Park is a popular destination. A total of 89 islands belong to the National Park, including the largest, the island of Kornati, which has also given its name to the archipelago. Kornat connects in the south to Dugi Otok and is just 32.44 square kilometers. This is also where one of the few settlements on the archipelago , the Vrulje resort, can be found. However, this resort is not permanently inhabited.  The owners of the about 50 houses only spend some of their time in Murter and are only here to grow olives or when they want to engage in fishing activities. Here vacationers seeking solitude and adventure off the beaten tourist path can rent one of the idyllic and comfortable Robinson houses. Every year the island hosts, between late April and early May, the Kornati Cup, a sailing regatta

Unique beauty of nature

The rugged beauty of the archipelago is best explored by taking various trips and island hopping. With rental boat, visitors can go island to island and easily discover the specific peculiarities of each island. The only 1.76 km ² island of Lavsa offers with its enchanting Levrnaka Bay a natural harbor and excellent anchorage. Here, in the summer season, some restaurants specified to serve island hoppers, cook some of the best traditional Dalmatian food. Also on the island of Levrnaka there are two restaurants just waiting to feed hungry guests after a long day on its very nice beach. Levrnaka is also a paradise for divers who want to observe the beautiful and rare horn corals, among others, off the coast. Located on the northwest side of the uninhabited island of Mana there is a small, sheltered bay for anchoring. The 1961 movie "Raging Sea" with Maria Schell was shot here and the scenes do well to show how well- preserved the islands still are today. The only 2.66 km ² island of Piškera offers sailors excellent infrastructure. There is a modern, protected marina with 118 berths, a grocery store, several restaurants and sanitation facilities. Another well-developed marina is located on the island of Zut, the second largest island of Kornati. The tiny Blitvenica islet whose famous lighthouse is already visible from afar, provides divers with plenty of unique opportunities. On the south side there are vast underwater reefs with numerous corals - a gorgeous sight. Another nautical paradise is found on the island of Ravni Zakan in the quiet Zakan Bay. Whoever, on the other hand,  is searching for a beautiful beach for swimming should look to the Kornati islands. Here, you can find   Uvala Statival, Uvala Suha Punta and in Vela Proversa the perfect swimming spots.
