Lastovo Island

The small, mountainous island Lastovo - only nine kilometers long and up to five miles wide – seems to be the "end of the world". The natural, charming gem is the farthest island from the mainland in Croatia. Unique Landscape- in the Middle of the Adriatic

Lastovo is the largest island in an archipelago of a total of about 46 smaller islands and cays. Since 2007 the entire island group has been put under protected because of their valuable and sensitive flora and fauna. The Lastovo Nature Park is one of 12 in Croatia. The island of Lastovo is mainly covered by dense, green forests and offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables. In addition to agriculture, rural fishing and tourism are among the main sources of income for the locals. The rich fishing grounds ensure that visitors can enjoy delicious, freshly prepared specialties straight from the sea to the restaurants- and together with the excellent Croatian wines, you will have a real treat. Snorkelers and divers can come on their own and explore the magical underwater world in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic.


Sites and Attractions

On Lastovo there are a total of six villages. The only ferry port on the island is located in Ubli, a town in the southern part of the island. Here ferries and catamarans from Split dock up. Lastovo is perfectly situated for an easy, small stopover when traveling from Split or Dubrovnik. The largest town is Lastovo with about 700 inhabitants. The picturesque island impresses with its magnificent Renaissance-style setting. The only hotel on the island can be found in the village of Pasadur on the west side. The town is also connected by bridge to the small neighboring Prezba Island. On the north side of the magical Zaklopatica Bay is the town with the same name, Zaklopatica, and here you can find a diving

The town of Lucica, only about a kilometer from Lastovo town, is definitely worth a visit and worth preserving- due to its architecture it is entirely under monument protection. Probably the most beautiful bay of the island is Skrivena Luka ("Hidden Port") on the south side of Lastovo. Here you can also visit the oldest lighthouse in the Adriatic, the Struga Lighhouse. On Lastovo you will find the perfect places for hiking. From the highest point of the island, Hum, viewers will enjoy a wonderful view of the Mljet and Palagruza Islands.
