Molat Island

The Molat island is lush with vegetation and a paradise for boaters and beach lovers. The island has been regarded as a secret tourist tip and is, therefore, still untouched by mass tourism making it a haven of peace and tranquility. Molat belongs to the Zadar archipelago and has about 22 square kilometers. Here there are an unusually high number of natural coves where many beautiful and secluded beaches are just waiting to be discovered. All beaches on the island are ideal for families with small children, since they all always fall very gently into the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Peace and Quiet in Beautiful Surroundings

Molat is a very green island, covered with small trees, shrubs, and many conifers. Two limestone hills rise out of all this green, with the highest being 142 meters high. On Molat there are three localities: its namesake capital of  Molat, Brgulje and Zapuntel. The villages are all located near the coast- slightly inland- but have settlements that are closer to the the coast. There are then many respective road connections to all settlements. In the capital of Molat there are shops and restaurants. Below the village extends the Lucina Bay, which is highly appreciated by sailors due to its sheltered location. A some minute walk away is a beautiful pebble beach, ideal for swimming and relaxing. From here you can get to a vantage point that gives a beautiful view over the entire archipelago. In Molat there is also a dolphin conservation center that is dedicated to rescuing the last of the Adriatic dolphins and can be visited between the months of June and September. Another popular anchoring spot for sail boats and yachts is the small town of Brgulj. Again, shopping and restaurants are available. Many Excursions on Molat

Molat is the perfect city to act as a starting point for many interesting and varied day trips. On the neighboring island of Zverinac, you can see many attractions, such as the Baroque Fanfonga Palace dating back to the18th century or archaeological remains of walls left over from the Roman period just waiting to be discovered. The small island of Rivanj is best explored on foot. Here, you only need only to follow the path of the single street and waiting for the visitor at the elevated end of this pathway is a wonderful view over the archipelago as well as of the magical little Church of Sveta Jelena. From here it is not far to the island of Sestrunj, a beautiful little place with two churches, as well as wonderful views of the archipelago. These small islands have hardly been touched by tourism and allow you to get in touch with the beauty of the Croatian island scenery in peace. Due to very good ferry routes it is possible to plan some "island hopping", ergo to hike each island and then take the ferry to the next.
