Riviera Rijeka

Following the city of Split with a population of 130,000 people, Rijeka is the second largest port city in Croatia as well as the main city and pulse of the Kvarner Bay. The Rijeka Riviera lies on the northern end of the Kvarner Bay, east of the Opatija Riviera, as well as around 75 kilometers from Trieste in Italy and around 26 miles from the Rijeka airport. Shipbuilding has held a long tradition in Rijeka, so it is no wonder that the city is home to the largest harbor in Croatia, which gives character to the whole city. The city can look at its history as far back as to the Celtic and Bronze Age. This history is reflected to this day in the numerous remains of Roman settlements which dominated the area up until the 8th century, such as the Roman baths. Although Rijeka does not have specified tourist resorts, such as the surrounding seaside resort of Opatija, the Rijeka Riviera does well to offer a combination of entertainment, relaxation and sites worth seeing to vacationers.

The official swimming season is from April to late autumn and the Rijeka Riviera offers enticing beaches to the west and east of the city for swimming and relaxing. Vacationers expect to find extremely clean beaches, cemented and cobbled walkways, as well as sandy or pebbled easy access to the sea. Whether you are looking for a small, lonesome or bustling beach, the Rijeka Riviera has something to offer everybody. Sporty tourists can enjoy water sports, such as diving, sailing, or surfing, while the younger guests play on one of the many playgrounds the Rijeka Riviera has to offer. For tourists who want to experience a fun-filled, active holiday, the Riviera Rijeka is the best holiday destination. On the outskirts there is the entrance to a road bridge towards the island of Krk, where more fabulous beaches make you forget everyday life. The mountains located within the country also provide the ideal conditions for mountain climbers, hikers and mountain bikers. If you want to escape the

The mountains located within the country also provide the ideal conditions for mountain climbers, hikers and mountain bikers. If you want to escape the sun, take a stroll along the beach promenade in the western district and stop at one of the numerous local restaurants that will take care of your physical well-being. Croatia is known for its diverse cuisine.

The center of Rijeka and the pedestrian area in particular, boast buildings that would tell you of the Danube monarchy if they could talk and ensure a Hungarian-Austrian charm for the exceptional personality of this port city. Also interesting is the castle Trsat, which is located above the city and houses a very admirable art gallery. The historic Maritime Museum and the Church of Saint Vitus are other cultural highlights that are worth a visit. In January or February one of the most traditional and largest events of Eastern Europe takes place annually in Rijeka: the carnival that simply must be experienced. Numerous clubs and bars are also popular for those looking for a long night. Rock music is particularly at home in Rijeka and unforgettable nights can be spent with great music in Rock cafés and rock clubs. Rock festivals such as the "Ri", which is well-known far beyond just Rijeka's city limits, as well as blues or jazz events often take place on the beaches in this unique setting. Rijeka is one of the cities where the music is synonymous with the city and thereby puting all travelers in a good mood.
