Croatian Cuisine and Wines

Croatia is the land of contrasts and diversity. What is true of the history and culture of the country is particularly true for the Croatian cuisine. The Croatian cuisine is not restricted to only Balkan classics like Cevapcici, but combines the typical, hearty aromatic Balkan cuisine with a variety of historically and geographically justified influences. While the coastal regions bring to the table a cuisine with elements of the Mediterranean diet, sometimes Italian, sometimes Greek inspired, other regions have clearly Ottoman influences. In the Pannonian lowlands, for example, their various specialties are reminiscent of the pastry-heavy cuisine of Austria. The checkered history of the country and its ideal, sunny and sheltered location between the Orient and Occident creates and brings together a unique taste experience directly from the kitchen. These unique dishes are what make every vacation a culinary dream trip. Each region tastes a little different - depending on what cultural influences they were exposed to over the centuries.
