Plitvice Lakes National Park

Hidden in the hilly karst area of central Croatia is one of the most spectacular national parks in the entire country, if not in the entirety of Europe, Plitvice Lakes National Park. Since 1979, this national park has been under the protection of UNESCO as the geographically largest national park in Croatia.

It is enchanting with its beautiful, flowing intertwining lakes, majestic waterfalls and dazzling white travertine and has definitely earned its special status. Some endemic and endangered plants and animals can be found amongst this wonderland of water, stone and dense forests. The well-paved paths are perfect for taking a long hike, whereby you might just be lucky enough to come across endemic plants and animals. The beauty of this unique region simply unfolds out of the water. The intense blue and green lakes stand out in stunning contrast to the deep green of the surrounding forest and the bright gray of the bizarre, karst mountains that have protected this incomparable jewel from the world for centuries.
