Povile

About 2 km south of Novi Vinodolski is the peaceful fishing village of Povile, in which around 200 inhabitants live. The small waterfront that begins at the port connects the two villages with each other and are both within easy walking distance. Povile is primarily known among tourists because of its great campsites, but also offers a few historical and cultural features.

Among the attractions of the village include the Chapel of the Holy Magdalena, located on a promontory. It was built in the 14th century and is named after the patron saint of Povile. In honor of the Holy Magdalena, residents organize a festival in the summer every year. An interesting building, an observation point and a place for athletic exercise: All of this can be found at the Ledenice Fortress that once towered above Povile and whose remains can be visited today. The castle was used in the Middle Ages to ward off enemies who wanted to gain access at the time to the quite well developed port of Povile. Well maintained hiking trails lead from the village directly to the castle. In addition to an active holiday, those seeking primarily recreation can relax on one of the clean beaches with varied texture in Povile.
