Riwiera Fažana

Fazana, is more than just the gateway to the legendary Brijuni National Park. The Riviera in the southwest of Istria is primarily characterized by the sea and its turbulent history, which dates back to Roman times. Accordingly, the center of the Riviera, the fishing village of Fazana, has officially been dedicated as the town of the sardine. The unassuming, this silvery blue and green iridescent fish is has been traditionally caught here for centuries. As if there weren't not reason enough to maintain this good old tradition and pay homage to it with the utmost devotion. The custom is displayed everywhere from the fishing academy Pilchard to the Sardine Street, where many restaurants have specialized in preparing the popular fish, or even the Sardine sculpture in the park facing the sea. What at first sounds bizarre, could be the most interesting part of your holiday- if you appreciate good and authentic food. Together with its autochthonous wines, produced only here, and excellent olive oil, there is the possibility to discover new sorts of preparation and uses of the underrated little fish every day. The little fish provides the energy for the discovery tour through the picturesque and dreamy Fazana or the nearby town of Vodnjan with its wonderful buildings from the Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque eras.

Take the time to cool down and relax at one of the fantastic beaches of the Riviera. The beach north of Fazana is framed by pines and to the south, the beach in Fazana with all its olive trees or the Camping Pineta beach with its wonderful view over the bay of Fazana and the offshore islands. Speaking of gorgeous, the tranquil town of Peroj has just that. The village, which has existed since Roman times, can easily be overseen, but deserves a second look: Here is the only Orthodox church in Istria and here the Montenegrin tradition has been well- maintained to this day. The small markets invite you to browse and the pubs and bars lure you in for a relaxing

By the way: Those wanting to visit the Brijuni Islands and the National Park of the same name, can also reach it from Peroj. Expect to have longer waiting times in the high season. At least a day trip to the legendary main island is, in any case, worthwhile- where else do you have the opportunity to experience the dream world of a former dictator up close and marvel at his bizarre ideas? How whimsical he was can be experienced in the Safari Park, where visitors ride through the park with an electric train. In addition, however, the island kingdom is enchanting with its colorful and species-rich underwater world and special features, including an 18-hole golf course and professional tennis courts. Do you feel like dwelling a little in this both man-made and nature created magic world? No problem, Tito's guest villas that once housed Hollywood stars and heads of state are now open as hotels and private accommodation for all affluent guests...
