Zaton (Krka)

In the western region of the Bay of Sibenik where the Krka River flows into the Adriatic Sea, is where the peaceful village of Zaton lies. Here one sees only a few tourists from Sibenik and they are those going up the Krka River on their way to the famous waterfalls. The typical North Dalmatian landscape is embedded in the fascinating green hills that surround Krka and the National Park of the same name. Here, where archaeological remains testify to a pre-Christian settlement, you can spend a relaxing holiday experiencing the beach and doing sports activities such as biking, rafting and hiking. A large marina is located 1.4 km outside of town and offers charter services for excursions on the Krka River and the Adriatic Sea.

In the idyllic small town you can experience its cultural and historical heritage which dates back to the founding days of Zaton - the 15th and 16th centuries. The Church of Sveti Juraj accents the town and was built in the 16th century – even though St. Roche is the patron saint of the city. The residents organize a festival with procession in honor of their patron saint every August. The "Zaton Night" full of music, dance and regional specialties is traditionally celebrated every year at the end of July. All year round you can taste the local cuisine in one of the few restaurants that exist in Zaton.
